Vehicle manufacturers and the European Union are investing with the goal of making mobility both sustainable and safer. One of the first steps towards safety and autonomous driving is the implementation of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which today are no longer reserved for high-end cars, but are increasingly present in small city vehicles, every day saloons, hatchbacks, sport utility vehicles and light commercials vehicles too.
The data tells us that by 2020 over 40% of vehicles on the road will be equipped with at least 2 types of assistance systems,
New European approval standards indicate that, starting from 2022, automatic emergency braking (AEB) and lane keeping assistance (LKA) will be mandatory for all registered vehicles.
And this type of technology is only going to keep growing in the coming years
The increase of these systems means that diagnostic, checking and calibration equipment for ADAS will become indispensable in the car repair sector.
Here is a list of some of the systems that can be fitted on today’s vehicles,

  • ACC – ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
  • ANV – AUTOMOTIVE NIGHT VISION
  • AEB – AUTONOMOUS EMERGENCY BRAKING
  • BSD – BLIND SPOT DETECTION, BSM – BLIND SPOT MONITORING, BSW – BLIND SPOT WARNING
  • CDW – COLLISION DETECTION WARNING
  • DDW – DROWSY DRIVER WARNING, DFW – DRIVER FATIGUE WARNING, DDD – DRIVER DROWSINESS DETECTION,
    DMS – DRIVER MONITORING SYSTEM
  • FCW – FORWARD COLLISION WARNING, FCWS – FORWARD COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM, FCA – FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • LDW – LANE DEPARTURE WARNING, LDWS – LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM
  • LKA – LANE KEEPING ASSIST
  • PD – PEDESTRIAN DETECTION, PDS – PEDESTRIAN DETECTION SYSTEM
  • TLR – TRAFFIC LIGHT RECOGNITION
  • And many more

The Sice PROADAS system

Sice is a Nexion group company with more than 60 years of history, today the Nexion Group is a world leader in the automotive sector. Experience and continuous research into innovation now coexist in a single group, which brings together the sector’s top brands in a solid and increasingly international company.

Below are some examples of why you would need to carry out the checking/calibration on these systems:

  • If the vehicle has been in an crash and needs a replacement radar or cameras
  • The windscreen has been replaced and it has a camera mounted on it
  • If the vehicle had suspension repairs and or wheels alignment
  • If a system has lost its calibration
  • When replacing faulty units
  • When any of the ADAS systems are not working correctly
  • If cameras or radar unit had to be removed to gain access to other components
  • If distance measurement to the car ahead is incorrect

This is why many workshops are now increasingly seeing the demand for diagnosing, checking and calibrating these types of systems.
Ryan’s Automotive can now offer the equipment, support and training necessary for workshops to be able to offer this service to its customers.

Note most manufactures use this type of equipment to perform what’s called static ADAS calibration where this type of special equipment and diagnostic software is used to perform a stationary calibration,
There are some manufactures that calibrate some of there cameras and radars with what’s called a dynamic ADAS calibration, to perform this you have to connect diagnostic tool (which the ADAS software and interface available with this systems also has coverage and instructions for dynamic calibrations) and force the ADAS ECU into a learning/calibration mode and then you will be prompted to drive the vehicle at a certain speed and for a certain distance on a good road with good clear line markings, and if all conditions are correct and all instructions followed the system will dynamically calibrate,
The big disadvantage with dynamic calibrations is that you have to have good clear weather conditions, good road conditions and daylight,
This is why most manufactures do static calibrations,

The PROADAS RS system is a universal modular system developed for checking and calibration of driver assistance systems, checking the alignment status and complete wheel alignment service (optional) on multi-brand vehicles and light commercial vehicles.

Ease of use, accuracy and maximum ergonomics are some factors which PROADAS differs from other ADAS calibration units on the market.
The versatility of this equipment fulfils the needs of many customers like workshops equipped with/without wheel aligners, mechanic workshops, body shops, windshield repairers.

The main benefits of this system are:

  • Compatible with passenger car and light commercial vehicles
  • The ease of having ADAS Calibration and a 4 wheel alignment system in one unit.
  • Compatible with vehicle on lifts or other levelled test bay; the software can be set to take in consideration the offset where the vehicle is positioned.
  • After the vehicle wheel alignment procedure is possible to perform the ADAS calibration procedure and align the equipment by the CCD wheel aligner sensors. (If you already own a Nexion Group CCD Aligner then the cost of adding ADAS Calibration is greatly reduced, see PROADAS TS ADAS Calibration System)
  • Ergonomic working position, “all within reach”; thanks to its design the user doesn’t need to move around for alignment of the system with the vehicle.
  • Electrical movement (up/down) of the system.
  • Need only 1 user for its use.
  • Conforms to vehicle manufacturer procedures (and in many cases exceeds the accuracy and ease of use compared to some manufactures procedures and there equipment)
  • Accurate alignment-positioning of the equipment by CCD sensors and contact less distance sensors
  • Immediate system positioning thanks to the information communicated in real time by the integrated wireless devices (PATENT PENDING)
  • Error-proof. The software contains the preloaded positioning values. It displays the point where it is and guides the system in its operations.
  • Complete print report including:
    Workshop and Driver info
    Vehicle Details
    PROADAS positioning data
ADAS calibration result (if used with Tecnomotor diagnostic equipment)
Wheel alignment values, with AllInOne software enabled
    Status vehicle in output
  • The graphic user interface help the user step by step on the system alignment and calibration process
  • Fast alignment and positioning of the system thanks to Real Time information from the many sensors integrated; PATENT PENDING
  • AllInOne Software: Precheck wheel alignment software integrated in the ADAS diagnosis software to control camber, toe values and thrust angle according to the vehicle manufacturers requirements, a condition necessary before any ADAS sensors calibration. ; PATENT PENDING.
  • This ADAS system can also be used with other brands of diagnostic equipment and even the OE diagnostic equipment, The operator will use the Sice PROADAS software to correctly position the PROADAS, SCE 300, SCE 700 equipment and view all necessary instructions. Once the system positioning has been completed, the operator will be asked to connect the diagnostic tool they have available to calibrate the ADAS sensor.
And the software will also generate the alignment and frame positioning information into a report but the calibration report will have to be printed from the diagnostic tool used, this is one disadvantage to using with other diagnostic tools as you will have 2 separate reports
If used with the Tecnomotor diagnostic system all reports will be generated and printed in one report

Technically, the measurements and calibrations of ADAS systems are influenced by the vehicle’s alignment in relation to the front and rear toe and thrust angle.
This is why we believe it is very important to have the alignment check performed and ADAS calibration done with one piece of equipment and one software all at the same time, this is one of the great features of this system

The SICE PROADAS system can be purchased in 4 different options to suit user requirements
On this page we are showing the PROADAS RS System which would be most suitable for someone that doesn’t already have a wheel alignment system or they have maybe a old laser wheel alignment system and they would like to upgrade there alignment system as well at the same time

4 Wheel clamps/brackets are needed for the above system to be used, the reason they are not included as standard is that we have a few different options for wheel clamps depending on customers budget and preferences
The options are Carbon brackets or rapid brackets or standard brackets

Options depending on requirements:

Current Panels: (more types of panels and mats in development and will be available soon)
(Note some manufactures only have dynamic calibrations and in these cases there is no board used, only the diagnostic equipment is needed)

      When is calibration necessary

      General
We at Ryan’s automotive pride ourselves on the support we give with the products we sell,
